Leonie Schoelen holds a B.A. degree in English Studies and Politics and Society from the University of Bonn, Germany, and a Master’s (M. Litt) degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of St Andrews, Scotland/UK. Since autumn 2016, she has been a doctoral candidate in Education Sciences and Sociology in joint supervision (co-tutelle internationale) by Prof. Marie Salaün at Centre d’ Anthropologie Culturelle (CANTHEL)/Université Paris Descartes, France and Prof. Uwe Schmidt, Center for Quality Assurance and Development (ZQ), Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (Mayence), Germany, working on “The transformation of the Algerian Higher Education system from pre-independence impacts towards the reflection of a new national identity: an analysis of the Université de Tlemcen and the Université pour Tous, Alger” (working title). In the framework of her research, a cooperation with the Centre de Recherche en Anthropologie Sociale et Culturelle (CRASC), Oran, Algeria, is currently underway. Leonie Schoelen is a former Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ GmbH- German Development Cooperation) Student Affairs consultant in the context of the establishment of the Pan African University Institute of Water and Energy Sciences (PAUWES) in Algeria and United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) as well as Centre for Development Research (ZEF) Project Associate in Germany after having gained work experience in India and Benin. She receives a full doctoral scholarship by Cusanuswerk, Germany, and is a member and mentee of the German Society for Higher Education Research (GfHf) promotion of young researchers programme
